In our last Employee Spotlight segment, we gave you an introduction to Misty Tuttle, a stellar member and long-standing cornerstone of the Horizon team for more than a decade. Now, in this next installment, we’re excited to introduce you to Rami Hammouri: Executive Director of Information Technology Services.
As a highly capable and technically sophisticated director with 10+ years of experience leading multi-functional IT teams, we’re grateful to have Rami supporting and guiding Horizon’s ongoing goals on behalf of our customers and communities. We recently caught up with Rami to chat about his history in the industry, his day-to-day work and more.
Can you tell us about your role at Horizon?
Rami Hammouri (RH): In my role as Executive Director of IT, I oversee corporate IT and security for the organization across the board.
I have been working diligently on growing my team and maturing their skills. Our focus has been on security and reporting. And defining our data to ensure outcomes give us better operational insight.
Tell us about your background and how you came to Horizon.
RH: I joined the Horizon team in February of 2022. I bring with me 20+ years of experience of cross industry from pharma and healthcare to retail. Horizon’s growth meant modernizing their IT to better serve the organization and its growth.
In my previous roles, I aspired to gauge growth needs and identify opportunities to better serve the advancement of the organization. The opportunity that Horizon presented to build a team and grow an IT organization made me eager to take advantage of the opportunity and to be part of Horizon’s amazing growth trajectory. I take a lot of pride in our work.
What do you most enjoy about working for Horizon?
RH: There’s a lot to do here. As a smaller organization, it’s great to work in a personal environment. Everyone is nice and communicates well, and the feeling of a collaborative effort. There’s a lot of potential for the organization to have a large regional footprint and expand as the market grows.
Any recent exciting projects at Horizon that you can tell us about?
RH: We have very exciting large projects that will help the streamline business procedures and ensure a smooth Sales, Marketing, and Operational processes.
We are rebuilding and restructuring our Salesforce environment. We’ve brought on a partner to help us optimize so that our sales teams can be empowered and introduce automated and easy to use processes. This will help reduce human errors and introduces efficiency, which is very exciting. We are also working on several reporting and analytics projects that help us classify and define our data for a better and more reliable data validation with the help of a newly established Data Governance Committee, and planning on building a single source of truth in the near future.
We are also heavily invested in security and have spent significant time and effort to ensure our environment remains secure.
Where do you live?
RH: I live in Hudson, a quaint little town between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio.
Where did you go to school or get training?
RH: I started in IT in 1996 while I was in college, and I just continued from there. I started as a developer but felt that I could do more. I shifted my focus to networking and systems, and eventually got into leadership, and have worked in various capacities since.
Tell us what you like to do in your free time.
RH: I have 5-year-old and 1-year-old sons, and a 16-year-old daughter and the majority of my time is spent with them. We’re an outdoors family, so we do a lot of hiking, and we play outside as much as weather permits. I’m planning my 5-year-old son’s first tent camping trip this fall. He’s very excited about it. My life is very full with fatherhood.
