Can you tell us a bit more about your role at Horizon?
Paul Peach (PP): My first role is to build a sales team to service the Indiana market. The second is to bring exposure to the Indiana market as to who Horizon is and why we are different. This role is not for the meek, as there’s always work to be done. Our job is to find corporate partners that share our vision and would like to partner with us in this endeavor.
Tell us about your background and how you came to Horizon.
PP: I have been in the technology business for about 30 years now. My most recent position was Regional VP of Sales for another fiber provider, but I heard through the grapevine about this role and it intrigued me. I had worked for Glenn Lytle (Horizon’s CRO) in a past life, and that alone is why I decided to pursue the opportunity. He’s one of the best leaders I’ve ever been around and Brian Hewitt (Director of Enterprise Sales) turns out to be the same type of leader.
What do you most enjoy about working for Horizon?
PP: For me, Horizon boils down to one word: honesty. From the first day I spoke with Glenn, he was almost brutally honest about the opportunity, to the point where I almost felt like he was trying to talk me out of the job. But he was just being completely honest about the amount of hard work it would take to be successful here in Indy. Having built many sales and leadership teams, my main concern anywhere is always if the organization and my peers are a “social fit” for my leadership style. The leadership here at Horizon is outstanding and the team I am on with my peers is one of the best I’ve ever been a part of.
If you look at my resume, I have been a “builder” for most of my career. I enjoy building sales teams, helping to make them high producing as a group and individually. The only real way to do that is through what we call “bench strength.” That is having people in your assigned geography that have worked for you in the past and would work for you again. Much like I wanted to work for/with Glenn again. It’s another chance to build a great team and see them grow to be successful.
Where did you go to school or get training?
PP: I went to Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, but most of my training has been a result of me having been lucky enough to have a couple of great mentors in my career and great leaders I have worked for and with.
Tell us what you like to do in your free time.
PP: I like to target shoot, hunt and play golf. I am in the gym at least 5 days a week and love to work out. I also love to cook and read.
